Rachadura Visual’s Work Stands Out at the Renowned National Salon, Bringing Back the Shine of Contemporary Art

After a hiatus of almost 14 years, the Victor Meirelles National Salon reclaims its place on the art scene, revealing a vibrant panorama of contemporary Brazilian production. Among the 25 works selected for the exhibition, the provocative “Do Peito da Pele” by the Rachadura Visual Collective stands out, a work that not only challenges established norms but also transcends artistic borders.

The exhibition, opened on May 9, 2022, at 7 pm, at the Santa Catarina Art Museum (MASC), shows the creations of the 25 selected artists, each awarded an Acquisition Prize of R$ 20,000. These works will now become part of MASC’s permanent collection, enriching the region’s cultural heritage.

Among the participating artists, Amanda Melo da Mota Silveira (SP) with “Cosmografia” and Sérgio Adriano Dias Luiz (SC) with “Não consigo respirar” and “Pavor Negro” were the works that stood out most, receiving the acquisition prize with the same score and a special recognition.

The exhibition, which runs until July 3, 2022, gives the public a unique opportunity to dive into the diversity and creativity of contemporary artistic production. Admission is free, so everyone can access this rich cultural expression.

The opening ceremony was attended by renowned artists, critics and art lovers, highlighting the importance of the return of the Victor Meirelles National Salon. Besides its participation in the Salon, “Do Peito da Pele” has been honored at previous festivals, such as the Olhar Film Festival, where it received an Honorable Mention for Best Editing, and the Festival Internacional de Cine Austral – FICA, where it won Best Experimental in the Latin American Regional Competition.

The event also pays tribute to two notable artists, João Otávio Neves Filho, known as Janga (1946 – 2018), and Carlos Roberto Carneiro Asp, or Carlos Asp (1949). Their significant contributions to the art scene are recognized with rooms dedicated to their works.

The exhibition is curated by Juliana Crispe, whose meticulous selection shows the diversity of styles, techniques and narratives present in the Victor Meirelles National Salon. The cultural and aesthetic impact of these works will certainly echo in discussions about the role of art in contemporary society.
